Jordan & Andrea Scotland

Serving with AIM Canada as Unit Leaders in Torit, South Sudan

Jordan and Andrea arrived in Africa as missionaries with AIM in January, 2005, and in February moved up to Ikotos, Sudan.

Their assignment in Ikotos was working with a local pastor to develop a leadership training center.  Their work was amongst a number of people groups who had fled to the Ikotos area to escape war and the LRA, with the main groups being the Latuko and the Lokwa.

The Scotlands moved to Torit, South Sudan in 2012, and in 2017 accepted the responsibilities of being the Unit Leaders for the South Sudan Team.  Much of their time as unit leaders is spent providing care and leadership for the three to four teams working among the different tribes in Eastern Equatoria: the Lopit, the Laarim, the Latuko, and the Didinga.  In addition their leadership role with these teams, Jordan and Andrea also have the role of  working in partnership with the Africa Inland Church:  casting vision, mobilizing, and equipping the local church for mission.

Jordan and Andrea have three children: Calum (15) Aiden (13) and Aislynn (11)

Scotland Vehicle Maintenance Project – we use this project to help subsidize the high maintenance costs of operating a vehicle in South Sudan. Our Work Funds reimburse mileage at $0.50 per km but the actual cost of operating a vehicle in SSD is over $1.00 USD per km. Due to the road conditions we never drive many actual kms but spend many hours on the road.

South Sudan Missionary Logistical Support Project – we use this project to help cover some of the costs of providing logistical support for our teams working in remote areas.

South Sudan Crisis Relief Project – There never seems to be any shortage of crisis in a country like South Sudan.  This project endeavors to provide initial and limited support responses for local churches and communities in times of crisis.  It is the desire of the project to utilize local churches, individuals and communities where they minister.  Examples of the type of support the project has assisted with in the past are providing food for elderly and disabled people, contribution towards funeral expenses, individuals fleeing violence, gender based violence injustices etc.  We hope and pray this money helps the church in South Sudan be able to show the love and care of Jesus to their neighbors and communities.

Literature in South Sudan Project – This projects exists for the development, production and distribution of valuable Christ-centered literary resources for the believers and leaders in the church of South Sudan.  Current activities are the printing of a newly developed New Testament in Juba Arabic  (a simplified trade language in South Sudan), ongoing translation of the Old Testament into Juba Arabic, making printed leadership materials available for church elders and pastors, and the printing of songbooks.

South Sudan Mission Activation Project – this is a new project for our ministry in Juba as we look to activate local churches and individuals into mission and Muslim engagement.  As we look to engage local churches and leaders we can see that there will be opportunities for trainings and seminars to help awaken a missional vision within churches and believers and also encouraging a heart for reaching Muslims.  Funds in this project will be used for trainings, seminars, “Adopt a Community” literature and engagement, facilitating prayer meetings and development of prayer resources, survey trips, research of current missional needs and gaps including the state of mission engagement within the church in South Sudan and the state of Islam in South Sudan etc.  This project will allow us to have some funds available for activating local churches, indigenous mission organizations, and Muslim engagement in Juba and broader South Sudan.
