AIM Canada Retiree

Dennis and Phyl were in their early fifties when the Lord led them to full time service with AIM. In 2002 they left for Uganda to manage the Matoke Inn guesthouse near Kampala, Uganda.

In this capacity they provided an affordable place for missionaries to find rest and rejuvenation. During this time the guest house transitioned to new facilities. They found it a real blessing to visit the missionaries in their places of service and were also involved with a local congregation and held Bible studies for staff.

Late 2004 they returned to Canada as Dennis had developed cancer.

In January 2007, Phyl returned to Uganda to serve as Assistant Short Term Coordinator, taking over as the Short Term Coordinator about 15 months later. Her major responsibilities involved coordinating, orientating and debriefing teams and medical electives.

After Home Assignment in 2009 she returned to Uganda once again serving as the Short Term Coordinator. Then, two months later, she felt the Lord leading her to fill the vacancy as Manager at Matoke Inn. Phyl held this position until returning to Canada in late 2011. Again, she was able to  provide a restful place to relax and rejuvenate as she assisted the guests in any way possible, including child care.

After Phyl’s home assignment she began her role as Assistant to AIM Canada’s Personnel Director working remotely from her home in Swift Current, SK!  In this capacity she worked with prospective applicants doing a lot of paperwork, tracking finance and medical progress while Murray Schmidt interacted and guided the applicants.

Phyl’s responsibilities took her to Toronto often to help at Home Based Orientations, doing mostly food preparation for the candidates and guests involved with the training. During this time she also represented AIM at Mission Conferences at Bible Schools in Saskatchewan and at local church mission conferences.

Five years later Phyl retired the from Assistant position.

Though officially retired now, she has still represented AIM at Mission Conferences to the present time, 2022.
