The Van Berkel family is preparing to serve at Rift Valley Academy in Kenya beginning in August 2027. Sam plans to serve alongside the national staff and operations teams, helping support the many behind-the-scenes departments that allow the school to function each day, including laundry, maintenance, janitorial, food services, and other practical needs. Megan, an RVA alumna, will primarily care for their three young children, Naomi, Mikaiah, and Benjamin, while also hoping to serve in other student ministry capacities at the school. Together, Sam and Megan desire to be involved in the lives of students through discipleship, encouragement, and ministry opportunities that point them to the hope and truth of Christ. Their heart in serving at RVA is not only to meet practical needs, but to help create a place where missionary kids are cared for, educated, and spiritually nurtured while their parents continue the work God has called them to among unreached people groups across Africa. The Van Berkel’s are passionate about coming alongside missionary families in this way, believing that supporting their children is a meaningful part of advancing the Great Commission.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” – Ephesians 2:10
